Muslims to fast from sunrise to sunset
The Muslim holy month of Ramadan starts today.
During this month, all Muslims - unless they are ill or travelling - must not eat or drink between sunrise and sunset.
By observing the Ramadan fast, Muslims show they are faithful to Allah, a spokeswoman for the Hong Kong Islamic Youth Association said.
She said Muslims believe that not eating or drinking for a period of time every day will help rid their bodies of toxins.
They are also encouraged to help the needy during the holy month.
