Vicky Cheng

Vicky Cheng came to Hong Kong five years ago from Toronto, Canada, and her arrival in the territory spurred her passion for food. 'There are a huge number of different places [to go to eat], especially for brunch,' says Cheng.

Cheng cooks at home as well, often on a weeknight, calling the hobby a way to 'de-stress' from her job in marketing professional services. She likes to cook 'whatever I can find in the fridge and somehow it becomes a new dish every time'. One weeknight favourite Cheng has added to her repertoire is a stir-fry of beef with basil, chilli and shallots.

But for Cheng, it's mostly about brunch, an excellent meal for catching up with friends. It could be at a local place such as Kam Fung's beautiful congee and noodles in Quarry Bay, or at somewhere western such as agnes b. on Hollywood Road. Cheng has been to agnes b. three Saturdays in succession for its breakfast. Cheng's choice is colourful, and an easy way to start the weekend, she explains, adding, 'I've always liked open sandwiches and Portobello mushrooms, so this has everything I want in one dish.'
