Davidoff Adventure Eau Fraiche (HK$400/50ml)

Claim: A fresher, lighter version of their 'rugged' Adventure fragrance, Eau Fraiche mixes the traditional (mandarin, neroli and bergamot) with the modern (ginger, basil), built upon a strong, masculine base of cedarwood, vetiver and white musk.

Gucci Guilty Pour Homme Eau De Toilette (HK$540/50ml), available at Harvey Nichols

Claim: Advertised at the 'elusive social-networking consumer', Guilty is an intense aroma that combines a fruity mix of lavender, lime and orange blossom with woodier notes of patchouli, sandalwood and pink pepper.

BVLGARI - AQVA Pour Homme Marine Eau de Toilette (HK$575/50 ml), available at Lane Crawford

Claim: A bold attempt to evoke the fragrance of the ocean, Aqva recreates smells of the deep sea through a citrus bouquet of grapefruit and rosemary, balanced by herbal notes of white cedar wood and posidonia.

The verdict:

Davidoff's light, almost revitalising scent is a welcome change from their standard hot-and-fiery fragrance. It's perfect for day or night wear. Gucci is somewhat overpowering, cashing in on their popular female Guilty by adding sporty notes. Ideal for office-to-club types. Aqva Marine's daring herbal aromas mix the calm (posidonia ) with the robust (white cedar wood). It's smooth, but intensifies into a contrasting concoction.
