Eyes forward for that smoky make-up look

Central's Schoeni Art Gallery has moved beyond showcasing the usual paintings and installations. Japanese cosmetics brand Ipsa booked it on Wednesday to launch its new eye shadow compact and unveil an ad campaign.

Veteran make-up artist Tetsuya Okukawa flew in from Japan to demonstrate the latest trend in smoky eyes, with singer-actress Ella Koon Yan-na on hand to help.

Talking like a stylist herself, Koon, who's also an Ipsa campaign girl, said applying eye shadow was one step she never missed before going out. 'Eye shadow is very important because you communicate with people with your eyes also.'

The latest trend, Koon said, was the use of monotone colour.

'I don't want to have so many colours on my eyelids. That's so out of date.'

The beauty talked fondly of Ipsa's new product: 'It's great to have a colour palette that can create different layers, shadowing and highlighting.'
