A good week for ...

Rebecca Zhu

The 23-year-old was crowned as Miss Hong Kong 2011 at a ceremony held in Kowloon on Sunday. A performing arts graduate who loves all types of dancing and music, she will now go on to the Miss World 2011 contest in London in November. The 1.68-metre Zhu moved to Hong Kong just over seven years ago from Suzhou. As well as winning the crown she was also voted most popular contestant.

Leukaemia patients

Promising experimental treatments using cancer sufferer's immune cells had dramatic results for three patients with advanced leukaemia who saw their tumours shrink after just weeks of treatment. Researchers removed some of the patients' T-cells and genetically modified them to attack tumour cells. The scientists also engineered the T-cells to start triggering other T-cells to multiply as soon as they attached to a cancer cell, bringing on a faster death for the tumour. Two of the three men in the study with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia remained cancer-free for almost a year.

Cesc Fabregas

After over two years waiting, the Arsenal star is returning to his first club, Barcelona, after the two clubs agreed a GBP35 million (HK$443 million) transfer fee. Barca hope to unveil the 24-year-old, who moved to London when he was 16, at a homecoming ceremony tomorrow. Fabregas has been frustrated as Arsenal endured a six-year trophy drought while his former team-mates from the Barca youth team, such as Lionel Messi, Xavi, and Javier Iniesta, dominated European football and were hailed as one of the greatest teams of all time.
