Urban officials detained over Guizhou riot
More than seven urban management officials in Qianxi county, Guizhou province, were detained over a riot on Thursday triggered by a dispute over an illegally parked motorbike, a spokesman for the county judiciary said yesterday. Ten people were also detained for allegedly torching or smashing more than a dozen vehicles in the riot. More than 10 police officers and security staff were injured. Choi Chi-yuk
Trains diverted to serve Beijing-Shanghai line
Mainland rail authorities have redeployed 21 high-speed trains to ensure services on the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed line, after 54 trains used on the route were recalled over safety concerns, a train manufacturer said. The Ministry of Railways plans to slow down the operational speeds of the country's high-speed trains, as well as reorganise bullet train schedules nationwide, for safety reasons. It also cut the number of high-speed trains running daily between Beijing and Shanghai to 66. Choi Chi-yuk
