Model has little time for luxury despite hosting Blancpain watch show

After the launch of its latest timepiece series at Basel World 2011, Blancpain held an intimate 'see it for yourself' show for collectors at its Ice House Street boutique on Friday.

Guest model Samantha Ko Hoi-ling wore watches valued at more than HK$100,000, but the former Miss Hong Kong finalist was not swayed by such luxury.

'Watches are important to me, insofar that they keep time; I'm a very punctual person, and I'd more likely show up early to anything than risk being late. But I don't own any watches as expensive as these,' she said.

Asked whether she has received any other expensive gifts in her modelling career, Ko insisted that contrary to the luxury brands she represented, she was not a material girl. 'I think the best gifts I've received carry emotional value - like the watch my dad gave me when I did well in my O-level exams,' she said. 'What I love is when someone writes me poetry. That's the kind of thing that makes me melt.'
