Photo scandal gave us a black eye

I was shocked by the Cathay Pacific photo scandal. I believe it has greatly damaged Hong Kong's reputation. The scandal has been covered widely both in the local press and overseas.

Members of the airline's crew were shown to be engaged in indecent acts in a plane's cockpit. There is no indication that the incident happened during a flight. But that's not the point. It's unbecoming and unprofessional conduct.

Because of this scandal, Cathay Pacific has tarnished our image abroad. Foreigners may well have a low opinion of our city and its carrier.

Investigators must get to the bottom of this incident and punish the culprits.

The company should also implement regulations to monitor the behaviour of the staff. Stringent rules must be put in place to ensure that such incidents will not happen again.

Thank you for your letter, Chris. It seems that nowadays people have no definite line of privacy. Our privacy is constantly invaded and many people seem to think that they should post something intensely private for all the world to see. This video has tarnished the reputation of Hong Kong's carrier, Cathay Pacific, even though it had no part in it.

Yet in all of this hubbub surrounding the incident, most of all we need to be sensible. Yes, it was a silly thing to do. People do silly things all the time, some more spectacular than others. But no one was injured.

The incident was not entirely without victims, however. Cathay staff will have to work hard to repair the damage to their reputation.

Yet soon the incident will be forgotten. The couple will have had their five minutes of fame. No one is seriously going to cancel their flight tickets with Cathay because of the couple's stupidity. It is not the catastrophe that some people would like to have us believe it is.
