An investigation has begun following the death of chemistry teacher Samuel Rodda, who worked at King GeorgeV School in Ho Man Tin, Kowloon.

Rodda, 31, died on Sunday after a security guard found him lying semi-conscious in the 21st floor lift lobby at his Hung Hom apartment at 4.22am. He was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, but pronounced dead at 5.32am.

'He passed out before paramedics arrived,' police said. Suspected illegal drugs were later found at Rodda's apartment.

Heather Du Quesnay, chief executive of the English Schools Foundation, said Rodda was a 'respected teacher and colleague'. She added: 'We are deeply saddened by the news.'

More than 600 current and former KGV students have signed a Facebook memorial page, 'RIP Mr Rodda'.
