Le Palet Frais
This is a fresh, simple cream cheese from a small farm in Deux-Sevres, home of the largest goat's milk production in France. Its light flavour and spreadability make it a great breakfast cheese to go on a toasted bagel or crackers, with fruit and a drizzle of honey, or roasted vegetables and freshly cracked pepper at lunch. With a relatively low fat content of 20 per cent, no rind, and a snow-white hue, it's a good cheese for first-timers.

Buche de Pussigny
Made in Pussigny in the Loire River Valley, in midwestern France, this long cylinder is characterised by its liberal dusting of charcoal ash, said to help mould grow and impart flavour, and a piece of straw through the centre to keep its shape. Milk from seven varieties of goats goes into this organic cheese, and the gamey flavour is distinctive. In addition, there are woody notes and a clear acidic kick, making it one of the punchiest of our five.
