From genius servant boys and crashing weddings to 10-year bets, 3 Idiots is an Indian comedy full of wit and drama. Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, the film is loosely based on the novel Five Point Someone by Chetan Bhagat.

Farhan (R. Madhavan) and Raju (Sharman Joshi) set off on a journey to find their long-lost friend Rancho (Aamir Khan) after he disappears during a graduation party.

Joined by another student who reminds them of a bet the three friends had made a decade ago, the trio discover secrets of Rancho's murky past and recall the hilarious antics of their years studying engineering under the angry Professor Viru (Boman Irani).

No Indian comedy would be complete without unrequited love, and in 3 Idiots, this takes the form of Pia (Kareena Kapoor), a medical student who happens to be the daughter of Rancho's arch-enemy, Professor Viru.

The highest-grossing Bollywood film of all time in India, 3 Idiots has won many awards including 10 Star Screen Awards, six Filmfare Awards and 16 IIFA awards. Though intended as a light comedy, the film also addresses the issue of conformity and rebellion against parents to pursue your own dream. In the director's own words: 'In our way, it's our comment on what we feel is right or wrong with society.'

3 Idiots opens next Thursday
