Police swoop on drugs pair

Drugs

TWO drug traffickers have been arrested in the Fujian city of Xiamen, the China News Service (CNS) reported.

The arrests were made last Thursday when anti-narcotics police stormed a private home and found Wang Xianchang and Su Hongrong in possession of 3.5 kilograms of heroin. Police also found 190,000 yuan (HK$172,520) and US$20,000 (about HK$154,500) of 'drug money' during the raids.

According to CNS, Wang and Su are Fujian natives who have been active in the drug trade for many years. It said the heroin came from Yunnan province and was intended for sale in Xiamen.

The CNS report did not say if Wang and Su were also responsible for drug trafficking from the mainland to Taiwan, a trade that has become rampant in recent years.

Taiwan police last month smashed a drug ring on the island of Quemoy which was apparently importing a large quantity of its merchandise from the mainland.
