The First Initiative Foundation hosted a lavish inaugural cocktail reception at the Ritz-Carlton hotel to kick off its series of charitable projects for the year ahead.

Canto-pop king Eason Chan Yik-shun surprised the audience with a brief performance to sing one of his hits and a piece from Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro with two young pianists who are benefactors of the educational charity.

Chairwoman Michelle Ong introduced Wednesday's programme and announced that the foundation would host a soiree in London on September 14.

Piano prodigy Zhang Shengliang, aka Niu Niu, and violinist Julian Rachlin will be flown to the British capital for the event. The private dinner has top-notch Hong Kong chefs on board, including Chan Yan-tak of the Four Seasons hotel's Lung King Heen, Lau Yiu-fai of Yan Toh Heen at the InterContinental Hong Kong, Bo Innovation's Alvin Leung and Cuisine Cuisine's Ken Yu Wai-king.
