What I'm listening to: I've been into early-90s electronic renaissance lately - U.F.Orb by The Orb and in particular the 40-minute version of Blue Room have been on repeat a lot.

What I'm reading: I Sailed With Chinese Pirates by Aleko E. Lilius: he's a nutcase correspondent who found very few answers, willingly wound up in jail, got kidnapped, was almost shot several times, most of his acquaintances were murderous thugs and he got his teenage 'coolie' assistant killed into the bargain. Quite what I was supposed to take away from all that, I'm not sure.

What I'm watching: the most recent receipt from HMV shows Alphaville by Jean-Luc Godard at the top. I'm a huge fan of sci-fi, noir, dystopian, fantasy and psychological films, and Alphaville ticks most of those boxes. Plus it's not in 3-D (thankfully), nor even in colour.

What gadget I'm using: I'm a founding partner of a new visual effects company and we just built our own 1,000 sq ft green-screen studio in the government-ignored creative hub of Chai Wan. There's also some pretty cool new software to go along with it. What's more entertaining than combining creativity and technology? We are trying to put high-level visual effects within the reach of more film and commercial directors.
