Young Post has been awarded a jury commendation in the public service category for this year's World Young Reader Prizes. The prizes, organised annually by the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers, go to innovative newspapers that promote young reader development. Young Post won the award for its 'Heritage Detective' series, in which teams of student reporters and photographers worked together to develop stories. The best articles were published in May and June.

The judges said: 'This project provided a great opportunity for young people to find out about and interact with their elders from a different perspective.'

Editor Susan Ramsay said the students played an important role in the publication's success. 'Our readers are enthusiastic and committed. The response to this project was overwhelming.'
