Ex-Taiwanese premier rejects running mate role
Former Taiwanese premier Su Tseng-chang said yesterday he had declined an invitation by presidential candidate Dr Tsai Ing-wen, of the main opposition Democratic Progressive Party, to be her running mate in the January presidential poll. He said Tsai made the offer on Monday, but he told Tsai on Wednesday he could not foresee there being enough mutual trust between the two to win the race. Lawrence Chung
Errant police face being locked up, suspension
Officers who violate police regulations can be suspended from duty for up to 60 days and locked up for up to seven days, according to a revised regulation on supervision of police conduct. An inspection committee under the Ministry of Public Security will be charged with inspecting police work nationwide. The committee will evaluate how police handle emergencies and criminal cases, as well as evaluate their use of weapons, equipment and vehicles. Zhuang Pinghui
