A text book Jeff Lloyd ride helped Champagne Days to an opening-day victory and brought up the jockey's 100th Hong Kong win in the process. Lloyd positioned had the consistent five-year-old box-seating in a slowly-run race, then peeled out at the 800m before scoring by 2 1/2 lengths in a Class Three handicap (1,400m). Trainer Michael Chang Chun-wai didn't trial Champagne Days and Lloyd said this contributed to the win. 'It was a smart move not trialling him, so the horse was quite fresh. He had the perfect run, the light weight and all the favours,' he said. Howard Cheng Yue-tin will serve a two-meeting ban after being found guilty of careless riding on Lucky Warrior.
