Revellers set shining examples
Revellers and fun-seekers packed into Victoria Park last night for the lantern carnival to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, the most important festival and occasion for family reunions after the Lunar New Year.
The moon, which was for most of the time veiled by thin cloud, faced competition from hundreds of beautifully crafted lanterns that brightened up the park.
The giant fish lantern - made up of some 2,500 small lanterns - was the eye-catcher for visitors, some of whom had travelled from as far as Europe to sample a taste of the festive atmosphere.
Another highlight of the three-hour carnival was the fire dragon dancing parade, which saw a 67-metre-long fire dragon emblazoned with thousands of burning sticks of incense take to the streets, parading from Tai Hang to the park.
Last night's event also featured Shaolin kung fu performances, a lantern quiz and fortune-telling.
Another lantern carnival will be held tonight at Sha Tin Park. Lantern exhibitions are being staged on the West Kowloon waterfront promenade until Sunday and at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre piazza until October 9.
