This year will see substantial MICE business growth and openings of the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center and hotel venues, as Bali prepares to host high-level international conferences.

Pivotal to this will be Nusa Dua. This enclave on Bali's southernmost tip boasts luxurious resorts and their MICE facilities, excellent infrastructure, plus the island's most extensive conference venue, Bali International Convention Centre, is managed by and adjoins The Westin Resort.

'Nusa Dua is not the only destination for MICE,' says Dermot Gale, general manager, Mercure Bali Harvestland Kuta (MBHK), alluding to coastal Kuta, Legian and Seminyak. Hotels and venues opening now offer an alternative MICE destination. These include Accor's mid-scale MBHK, a MICE option for Kuta and Bali's airport catchment area, and upscale Pullman Bali Legian Nirwana, alongside Legian-Kuta beachfront - its sleek 320-square-metre facilities are suitable for medium-sized corporate meetings. Sheraton Bali Kuta should open in 2013. Further north in Seminyak, chic W Retreat and Spa has opened. Nusa Dua's own updates include Courtyard by Marriott, its 6,717 sqft MICE facilities geared to smaller-sized groups, and The Westin's' US$13 million refurbishment.
