Smucker's Simply Fruit Strawberry Spreadable Fruit

This is made using fruit syrup, grape juice concentrate and natural flavours, rather than refined sugar, yet it has a candy-like flavour that children will love. It also spreads easily. The young at heart might enjoy it in an occasional peanut butter and jelly sandwich, as this translucent red jam may be too sweet for everyday use.

Waitrose Essential Strawberry Jam

This deep, intense crimson-coloured jam has flavours that are just as hard-hitting. To begin with, you'll hit a sugar high, and to finish, a sharp fruity acidity. It has coagulated into a hard jelly that feels as if it could almost be tipped out onto a plate, and a knife makes a clear cut. However, it isn't difficult to spread - a squash and smear with a knife will do.

Home-made Strawberry Rose Petal Jam

Possibly the only jam from Hong Kong that visitors can buy as a souvenir. This thick jam has a distinctive aroma of roses, which, coupled with its sweetness, tends to mask any berry flavours. It's an attractive, crimson conserve that couples well with cream for scones.

Stute Diabetic Strawberry Extra Jam

This dark, blood-red jam is set into a hard jelly with lots of seeds. It uses a sugar substitute called sorbitol, which is commonly used in 'sugar-free' food products. Because of this, some would expect an empty sweetness followed by bitterness, but, in fact, it is rather fruity. It's enjoyable but has an unpleasant aftertaste, as it leaves the odd flavour of overripe fruit.

St Dalfour Deluxe Strawberry Spread

Inside this slim bottle is a deep maroon jam with pea-sized morsels of cooked strawberries. The fruits mean that a smooth application onto flat toast, for example, will be difficult, but you'll be rewarded with juicy bursts. The strawberries do, however, tend to float to the top while setting, so when you reach the end, you'll be left with just wobbly jam.
