Zhou Xun joins Tom Hanks for screen adaptation of best-selling novel

The award-winning mainland actress and Hong Kong resident Zhou Xun is finally taking it to the international stage.

Zhou started her film career in the early '90s, going on to star in over 30 films and winning such prestigious awards as the Golden Horse for best actress.

The film, directed by the Wachowski siblings from The Matrix trilogies and Run Lola Run's screenwriter-director Tom Tykwer, is scheduled to begin filming tomorrow, according to an announcement made by its producer Grant Hill and Munich-born Stefan Arndt.

Zhou will be joining Oscar-winners Tom Hanks and Halle Berry, as well as Hugh Grant.

The film will shoot on location in Scotland, Spain and Germany.

German media has called Cloud Atlas 'the most expensive German film of all time', owning to its US$100 million (HK$780 million) budget.
