Hong Kong has joined Paris and New York in having a Van Cleef & Arpels maison- the French for 'house' and what other brands might call a flagship store.

Designed by Patrick Jouin and Sanjit Manku, the maison, in Prince's Building, Central, opened on Friday. Celebrities invited to the launch included Australian actress Cate Blanchett, Michelle Yeoh Choo Kheng and Josephine Siao Fong-fong.

To celebrate the opening, the jewellery house unveiled a one-of-a-kind necklace featuring a sleek diamond-studded neck collar with a detachable ballerina pendant (above left; HK$10.35 million).

A rose-cut diamond serves as the dancer's face and other diamonds are set on her tiara, slippers and leotard. Her tutu is adorned with rubies.

Van Cleef & Arpels is also offering 22 Lady Arpels Ballerina watches (left; HK$890,000). Housed in a 38mm white-gold case with a diamond-encrusted bezel, the watch features a white-gold sculpted ballerina set against a mother-of-pearl dial. A rose-cut diamond serves as the contour of her face and the design is completed by a red lacquer tutu.
