One Day

One Day
by David Nicholls
HarperCollins (enhanced e-book)

If you haven't heard of One Day by now, what have you been doing for the past year and half? Probably sitting on a plane watching everyone else reading One Day, the charming, funny and intensely moving story of Dexter and Emma. Now a slick, if mildly disappointing movie, it is not so much a hymn to delayed love as a story of profound and believable friendship: Emma and Dexter meet on the final day of university (July 15, 1988), almost have sex, then negotiate the next two decades in markedly different ways. One Day is immensely moving, and that rarest of things - popular fiction that makes you laugh and cry while being beautifully written. Nicholls' publishers on both sides of the Atlantic have released this enhanced e-book to promote the movie. There's a slightly obsolete trailer for the movie, and an illuminating interview with Nicholls at London's Itunes festival on July 15 this year. An American version is also available with a great deal of movie-related promotional material. Extras: author interview, film trailer. The US version has interviews with Nicholls and cast members of the film.
