Newly crowned 'style legend' Aaron Kwok joins King of Pop and fashion icons in exhibition
In the world of fashion and pop culture, some faces have become so synonymous with style that they're considered fashion icons. Audrey Hepburn, Michael Jackson, Marilyn Monroe, James Dean and ... Aaron Kwok Fu-shing?
That's what the IFC Mall and fashion magazine Milk X suggested on Tuesday when they unveiled their Style Legends exhibition - an interactive art gallery with portraits of some of fashion's biggest names in the last half-century.
At an opening ceremony also attended by singers Joey Yung Cho-yee and Juno Mak Chun-lung, and lyricist Wyman Wong Wai-man - all known for their passion for fashion - the 45-year-old Kwok was awarded the status of 'style legend'.
That essentially placed him among the pantheon of names that included the Beatles, Andy Warhol, Mary Quant, Coco Chanel and Miuccia Prada.
Kwok - dressed in a bow tie, blue cardigan and outrageously patterned trousers that only a celebrity could get away with - said he was honoured to be mentioned alongside some of his idols.
'As many probably know, I'm a huge fan of Michael Jackson,' said Kwok, whose dance moves were influenced by the late King of Pop.
'He was transcendent in not just his music, but his style.'
Yung, in a short black dress, said Audrey Hepburn was one of her biggest style influences.
Celebrity fluff aside, the portraits in the exhibition are worth checking out.
The two artists, Isaac Bonan and Samantha Hahn, from France and New York, respectively, have created colourful looks that give expressive emotions to fine facial details.
Bonan flew to Hong Kong to attend the event.
'In addition to the international names, I also did portraits of Hong Kong stars' such as Kwok, Carina Lau Ka-ling and Li Bingbing, he said. 'It was finally good to see Aaron face to face.'
The Style Legends exhibition runs until October 9 at the IFC Mall.
