This week we test: loose powder

Joyee Chan

Loose powder is a makeup kit staple. A light dusting as a final step helps your makeup last and prevents shine.

Orbis Loose Powder Natural (HK$229)

It does what it should: sets makeup and makes it long-lasting. The powder comes in separate packaging, meaning the case is reusable, which is a plus, but it's just a little too big to carry every day.

Estee Lauder Lucidity Transluscent Loose Powder (HK$280)

This truly translucent powder has a soft and silky feel. It works very well on oily skin, setting foundation and eliminating shine. The packaging is not very user-friendly though, and you'll need to remove the inner lid every now and then to get to the powder.

Anna Sui Protective Loose Powder (HK$320)

This powder is subtle, soft and smooth, providing great pore coverage, absorbing oil and setting makeup. Suitable for all skin types. The case and rose fragrance are delightful bonuses to a great product.

Chanel Poudre Universelle Libre (HK$400)

You really are paying for the name here. You have to choose the colour very carefully, and ensure you don't have even the tiniest patch of dry skin because this will highlight it. On the upside, a little of this goes a long way.

Skinfood Buckwheat Loose Powder (HK$130)

Coverage and lasting power is medium - I get powder strains after a few hours. One thing that disturbs me is its strong scent of buckwheat.
