CHINA'S great golfing hope, Zhang Lianwei, marked his professional debut with a one-under par 71 in the Malaysian PGA Championship yesterday, writes Spencer Robinson.
Zhang turned pro a fortnight ago after winning the individual silver medal in the golf competition at the Hiroshima Asian Games and claiming his third China Open amateur crown.
He was one of only 13 players to better par and goes into today's second round in the 72-hole tournament in equal 11th position.
Zhang's compatriots, Cheng Jun and Wu Xiangbing, found the going tougher. Cheng is joint 33rd after a 75 with Wu a further stroke back.
