HK$35.90 for 310 grams, Great
This jam has 70 per cent fruit and a good sweetness. But to taste it, you'll need a spoon rather than a spread knife; it has a watery consistency that made my toast soggy.
Verdict: Too light - mixing it with some peanut butter will help.
Smucker's Low Sugar Strawberry Preserves
HK$26.90 for 291 grams, Great
On paper this is a winner, with half the sugar and calories of regular preserves. But despite the morsels of mushy strawberry pieces, it has an artificial taste about it that's more like drinking strawberry soda than eating the fruit.
Verdict: Decent taste, but I doubt I'll buy this again.
St Dalfour Deluxe Royal Fig Spread
HK$31.50 for 284 grams, Great
This is what all jams should be like - with a thick and spreadable consistency, natural sweetness and slivers of real fruit. This old French recipe has figs sweetened only with grape juice concentrate.
Verdict: Pass me another slice of toast; this is delicious.
