Sam Ho Wai-hung, International Federation Against Copyright Theft executive director and general manager, thinks it is important to see intellectual property rightsprotected.

'Compared to a few decades ago, Hong Kong's moral values are deteriorating,' Ho says. 'If we want to make our city competitive and attract creative people, we have to respect others, including their intellectual property rights.'

Taiwan came first in both the tertiary and senior secondary group, while Hong Kong aced the most popular online video award in the secondary group.

Institute of Vocational Education student Chan Chun-yin, who was last year's tertiary group winner, was proud that his current entry Witness gained the most hits online. The film points out how one's router or computer can be evidence of illegal downloading.

Speaking as one of the judges, Ho says he thinks the most striking video came from Hong Kong Baptist University.

'Every second matters in a 30-second clip, so it is important to capture the audience's attention and deliver a clear message,' Ho says.

HKIPS chairwoman, Selina Chow Liang Shuk-yee, says: 'The competition provides an excellent opportunity for youngsters from Taiwan and Hong Kong to exchange their experiences and express their innovative ideas.'

Chan was impressed by the Taiwanese students' great shooting skills and efforts. 'While we [Hongkongers] tend to rely on the hardware or software,' Chan says, 'the Taiwanese put a great deal of effort into details such as making stop-motion film.'
