Pretty in pink for breast cancer month
The Peninsula hotel has a pink glow at night, which means Breast Cancer Awareness Month is almost here.
During next month, the aerial view of the world will be dotted pink as the Tsim Tsa Tsui hotel and 200 other global landmarks join the Estee Lauder Companies' campaign to raise awareness about the disease.
At the Peninsula illumination ceremony on Tuesday evening, actors Miriam Yeung Chin-wah and Elizabeth Lee Mei-fung shared personal stories about breast cancer prevention.
Yeung, who was a registered nurse before she became a pop icon, said: 'I believe that a lot of ailments begin with poor emotional health. If I ever had a friend with breast cancer, I would make sure to spend time with them, support them emotionally and share the stress.'
Lee shared a cautionary tale. 'Years ago, a friend of mine told me the radiation from mammograms was harmful,' she said. 'I got scared off, but eventually went to my doctor, who debunked that myth. This is something important that I wanted to share - get regular check-ups.'
