The government is acting to make sure homebuyers or sellers who give their contact details to property agents do not receive endless phone calls from agents they don't know. The Estate Agents Authority's circular on the protection of personal data of clients says agents cannot disclose the information to another agent, or sell the data to a third party without the client's consent. If the rules are breached, the offending agent and the management of the related agency could lose their licenses.
