Estee Lauder

Pure Colour Nail Lacquer, Metallic Sage (HK$140)

Claim: After last year's Surreal Violet, Tom Pecheux, Est?e Lauder's creative make-up director, has added an olive green nail lacquer with fine gold shimmer to the Pure Colour collection this autumn. Its subtle metallic shine gives this muted hue a touch of elegance.

Nars Galion Nail Polish, Night Breed (HK$160)

Claim: It's all about bold colour and rich textures for Nars this autumn. This collection of four coincides with the Night Series Eyeshadow Palette launch. Turn some heads with Night Breed (black with silver glitter, pictured), Night Rider (soft plum with silver glitter), Night Porter (black with green pearls) and Night Flight (black with cobalt blue pearls).

Chanel

Le Vernis Nail Colour - Les Jeans De Chanel, Blue Boy (HK$180)

Claim: Developed by Peter Philips, creative director of Chanel Makeup, this collection was created to celebrate the annual Vogue Fashion Night. It takes inspiration from denim - a casual chic fabric for all seasons - and comes in three shades of blue. Coco Blue is a baby blue, the medium hue is Blue Boy and the darkest is Blue Rebel.

Verdict:

Both the Estee Lauder and Nars nail polishes are easy to apply and are quick to dry. We love the pearly sheen of the Estee Lauder product, and it lasts well, too; there's not much chipping, even after a week. The Nars polish is edgier and brings plenty of bling to your nails, but takes a bit of effort to remove. Chanel's Blue Boy appeals mainly for its unique colour. It doesn't glide on as easily as the others, but the removable cap reveals a handy, slip-free brush.
