Men's treatments - that is, facials, massages and the like - are normally emasculating experiences. Despite the rise of the androgynous metrosexual, a guy venturing anywhere near a spa is still the source of much amusement for his fellow man. But history reveals that centuries ago, in various parts of the world, men were using plants, fruits and herbs to cleanse, moisturise and generally protect their skin.

VitaMan may sound like a Saturday morning eco-cartoon, but it has brought things full circle with its natural men's skincare line. By implementing the wisdom of Australia's Aborigines, its range provides an easy, natural way to better skin. And, more importantly, offers you a taunt-proof ancient tale to prevent backlash from your buddies.

The Landmark Mandarin has teamed up with the brand for the newly introduced VitaMan Detox: a facial treatment tailor-made to tackle the everyday concerns of the common man. It uses a concoction of the company's finest products to remove the build-up of toxins and grime while promoting hydration.

The Oriental Spa is a thing of beauty: arrive an hour before your appointment and take advantage of the many heat and water experiences - showers, ice fountains, vitality pools, tepidarium chairs. You could spend an entire day lounging around half-naked and never get bored.

But it's the detox you're here for, and after being ushered into your own private room, the facial specialist begins by cleaning the entire face and neck with a cleanser followed by a scrub. Then comes the massage cream, as the specialist uses deep rubdown techniques to reduce facial muscular tension.

The main product of the detox is then applied: a unique Australian clay mask that uses 35 active minerals to draw out the face's toxins. It is left on for a good 10 to 15 minutes while the specialist concentrates on a scalp massage. After the mask is removed, it's a quick combination of a skin protector, a revitalising serum, a lip-and-eye balm and finally a moisturiser.

You're then ready to face the world and, more specifically, the endless smoggy pollutants that drift down Queen's Road Central, armed with the knowledge that just an hour away is pure facial rejuvenation.
