Shoppers' paradise

Horizon Plaza is Hong Kong's premier destination for shoppers on the hunt for antique, reproduction, contemporary or outdoor furniture. It is situated southwest of Hong Kong Island, in Ap Lei Chau, which means 'Duck's Tongue Island' due to its shape.

The converted warehouse offers 28 floors of spacious shopping, a unique experience in Hong Kong where land is at a premium and rentals are high. Many retailers at Horizon Plaza can show off an extensive inventory, allowing customers more options, making this shopping destination well worth a visit.

Horizon Plaza is home to more than 150 shops and, although known for its antique and home furnishing stores, it also houses a growing number of fashion outlets, including some of Hong Kong's favourite high-end brands such as MaxMara, Polo Ralph Lauren, Armani, Lane Crawford, Moiselle and Joyce.

It also has interior design services, home accessory and carpet shops, large stores for mothers, babies and children, food and wine, and several cafes for shoppers to relax in while taking in the view of the East Lamma Channel and outlying islands.

The area where Horizon Plaza now stands was originally designated for industrial use but, with the gradual shift of manufacturers moving across the border to the mainland, the site was left unused. In 1991, Horizon Plaza's owners bought the warehouse and converted it into something more profitable - commercial retail space. By the mid-1990s, tenants were moving in, intrigued by the idea of vast retail space.

Horizon Plaza is now a destination popular with locals and tourists because of its excellent parking facilities, high-end fashion outlets and wide range of options to furnish and decorate homes. It's also an easy option when shopping for children's things. It has everything from pregnancy attire to all a newborn baby may need, including children's furniture, clothes, toys and books.

Horizon Plaza is an easy journey via public transport from Central, Wan Chai and Causeway Bay, with regular buses to Ap Lei Chau Estate. From there, a free shuttle bus takes customers to Horizon Plaza's car park via South Horizons, where the bus picks up outside Block 17 of May Fai Court. Alternatively, you can take a taxi directly to Horizon Plaza at 2 Lee Wing Street, Ap Lei Chau.

The MTR is also building a new line to the south side of Hong Kong, with a station at South Horizons due to open in the next few years.
