BMW's third-generation 6 Series Coupe exudes power. Due to be displayed at the BMW showroom in Wan Chai this weekend, the big 2+2 seater is half a centimetre closer to the ground on 18- or 19-inch wheels, 74mm longer than its predecessor, at 4.894m, on a 2.855m wheelbase.

The new 6 Series Coupe is also 39mm wider, at 1.894m, and with 5mm 'shaved off its height', the Bavarian marque says.

The models are equipped with the marque's double corona look xenon headlights, and incorporate the latest LED technology in exterior and interior light clusters.

Adaptive LED headlights are now fitted in the 6 Series Coupe, and 'provide a bright white light, similar to natural daylight', along with low and high-beam LED light rings, BMW says.

The marque says the latest 6 Series Coupe offers all passengers more headroom, more height adjustment in the front seats, and extra elbow and shoulder room in the rear. The 460-litre boot can hold 'three 46-inch golf bags or two medium hard-shell cases and a flight case'.

The highlight of the 6 Series Coupe has always been its engines. BMW fans in Hong Kong are offered the two turbocharged petrol-engine versions. The top of the range BMW 650i Coupe (HK$1,628,000) has a 4.4-litre V8 that pumps 407hp between 5,500rpm and 6,400rpm, and offers 600Nm of torque between 1,750 and 4,500rpm.

Such power takes the 1,845kg 650i Coupe to 100km/h in under five seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h for a fuel consumption of 10.5L/100km and carbon-dioxide emissions of 246g/km. There is also a six-cylinder 640i (HK$1,363,000).

The models are fitted with a host of engine, gearing, fuel and power adjusting, and monitoring electronics to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. The coupes are also fitted with brake energy regeneration and electric power steering.

Optional extras include an integral active steering system, parking assist, lane-change and lane departure warning systems, and head-up display.
