Atkinson named Hong Kong's youngest captain
Jamie Atkinson, 21, will become the youngest person to captain Hong Kong when he leads the team for the Asian Cricket Council Twenty20 Trophy in Nepal in December.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Atkinson will be at the helm of a young team with an average age of 22. Teenager Nizakat Khan was picked as vice-captain as the selectors opted for a future built on a young foundation.
The pair will also be in charge of Hong Kong's bid to qualify for the 2015 World Cup. Hong Kong coach Charlie Burke was 'delighted' the selectors named such a young captain ahead of the ICC World Cup qualifiers: 'Jamie is a very talented cricketer who is eager to learn the art of captaincy.'
Atkinson, who made his one-day international debut at the age of 17 against Pakistan in the 2008 Asia Cup, will take over from veteran Najeeb Amar who stepped down soon after Hong Kong's successful campaign at the ICC World Cup Division Two tournament in Dubai in April.
The Hong Kong-born Atkinson is now playing league cricket in Western Australia alongside the likes of Australian test batsman Shaun Marsh. He scored 122 on his debut for Fremantle last month.
