For the second time this year, legal officials chose not to prosecute the former IMF chief on charges of attempted rape. There was evidence from Strauss-Kahn's own testimony of sexual assault in a 2003 encounter with French writer Tristane Banon, the prosecutor said on Thursday, but given a three-year statute of limitations on that charge, no case was brought. Under French law, sexual assault is a lesser charge than attempted rape and can't be prosecuted if a complaint is made more than three years after the alleged incident.

The mainland-born baby's plight touched the hearts of Hongkongers, who offered substantial donations to fund the HK$1 million liver transplant which he needs to survive. The University of Hong Kong set up a special charitable fund to collect donations. Li's parents brought the 17-month-old to Hong Kong in the hope he could have an operation to fix the blocked bile duct he was born with, and found he needed the transplant. Doctors said one of the boy's parents could act as a donor.

The dissident artist was named the contemporary art world's most powerful figure by the influential ArtReview magazine in its 10th annual 'Power 100' list. The 54-year-old artist, who also made it to Time magazine's list of the 100 most influential people in the world this year, said he would continue his work struggling for freedom of expression on the mainland, despite the restrictions imposed on him.
