WARWICK REID sent a message to his Hong Kong, Taiwan and Philippines enemies yesterday that having him killed would only expose themselves to risk.

During a wide-ranging interview in the garden of his family's New Zealand home he claimed a plot to murder him in prison in Hong Kong was foiled by the Independent Commission Against Corruption.

Reid, 47, turned Crown witness against his co-conspirators and accomplices in a $12.4 million bribery scam.

He said he was now fatalistic about his safety.

'If someone's going to come and blow my brains out, then they are going to do it and there is not anything I can do about it,' said Reid, who has turned down the offer of a new identity and security from New Zealand police.

'What do you gain by taking me out? Is it really worth the risk?' he asked his enemies.
