Media improvement measures at new Legco

A series of improvement measures were rolled out by the government yesterday in response to criticism over curbs on the media at the new Legco headquarters at Tamar, including opening a passage between the chamber and ante-chamber, where lawmakers always pass by. One more press room, closer to the chamber, is being added and the press area at the entrance will be set in a better position.

Jobless rate remains at 3.2 per cent

The unemployment rate remained unchanged at 3.2 per cent for July to September, while the underemployment rate fell from 1.8 per cent to 1.7 per cent.

Year set to be one of city's top 10 driest

This year is on track to become one of the top 10 driest on record, the Observatory said. Only 1,386 millilitres of rainfall was recorded until October 17, which was 39 per cent less than normal. The driest year on record is 1963, when 901 millilitres of rainfall fell on the city.

28 evacuated as blaze hits prison laundry

Twenty-eight inmates were evacuated from a laundry at Pik Uk Prison in Sai Kung when a drying machine burst into flames. No one was hurt.

Man held in sex offences probe released on bail

A 73-year-old man arrested on Monday in connection with sex offences against four schoolgirls in Kwun Tong was released on bail. He must report back to police next month.
