New on the block

The idea that jewellery showrooms can also serve as galleries is catching on in Hong Kong. And that's certainly the case at AME Gallery (top left), which recently opened on Graham Street, Central. Its 'curator', Anna Cheng, has a degree in interior architecture, years of experience working for luxury brands such as Louis Vuitton, Valentino and Herm?s, and a family history in the jewellery business.

Cheng has brought together artisan jewellers from countries such as Spain, Brazil, Australia and Poland and innovative methods to create beautiful yet individual pieces.

Belgian jeweller Salima Thakker demonstrates fine, delicate craftsmanship in gold and filigree pieces, such as the Facet necklace in yellow gold with smoky quartz (far right; HK$18,000). Capturing the imagination are the playful designs of Brazil's Antonio Bernardo, particularly the puzzle ring (below right; HK$18,000). And from fellow Brazilian Marina Sheetikoff comes fairytale-like pieces such as the Wave & Pearls headpiece, made from sterling silver and freshwater pearls.

AME Gallery is at 12/F, Tin On Shing Commercial Building, 41 Graham Street, Central, tel: 3564 8066.
