Man in critical condition after department's run

A 41-year-old Drainage Department employee was in critical condition after collapsing during a 10-kilometre run at Tai Mei Tuk dam, Tai Po, to mark the Water Supplies Department's 160th anniversary. Five others were taken to hospital. Department director Ma Lee-tak said all were experienced runners.

Competition law changes upset consumer watchdog

Consumer Council chief executive Connie Lau Yin-hing accused the government of acting against consumers' rights by making concessions to business and changing the planned competition law. She was particularly concerned about the removal of the right of individuals to take action against firms. A proposed agency would initiate all legal proceedings on behalf of members of the public.

Man in police custody falls from 10th floor

A man arrested for stealing wiring fell from the 10th floor of a building while police were escorting him to his home in Yau Ma Tei.

Legco expulsion 'would hurt public interest'

Expelling the chief executive or other officials from the Legislative Council for breaching its rules, such as by using inappropriate language, would harm the public interest because they could no longer perform their duty, said Legco president Tsang Yok-sing, who took legal advice on the issue after Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen accused People Power lawmaker Wong Yuk-man of thug-like behaviour.
