Just as autumn is the time for changing wardrobes and shopping for a new look, it is also the perfect time to switch to a new fragrance. Fashion houses have capitalised on the change in the air by rolling out a wide selection of masculine new scents, from fresh and light to warm and urban.
Carolina Herrera's latest addition to its 212 line-up of fragrances is 212 VIP Men, inspired by New York's exclusive nightlife. Its cocktail of scents includes chilled vodka, lime caviar and king wood for a blend of bracing freshness, energising fruit and tropical earthiness.
Also inspired by 'life in the modern metropolis', Hugo Just Different is the brand's follow-up to its best-selling Hugo Man fragrance. The reinvention of a fern-like scent is accentuated with mint, herbs and a woody base.
Iconic British designer Paul Smith, meanwhile, is looking to the younger generations for inspiration. 'I wanted to create a fragrance that bottled the spirit of optimism - that captured the youthful enthusiasm and energy I see around me every day,' he says. Optimistic for Him embodies this attitude with top notes of citrus and cardamom with a warm, woody base of cedar, vetiver and amber.
From Italy, luxury house Trussardi Group is celebrating its 100th anniversary with the introduction of Trussardi Uomo. The black classic packaging contains top notes of lemon and bergamot and middle notes of violet and geranium enhanced by leather and patchouli - what it describes as the 'quintessence of suave masculinity'.
Yves Saint Laurent's third fragrance for men is designed to embody strength and lightness in a woody aromatic blend of Calabrian bergamot, violet leaves, star anise and pink pepper - represented by Benjamin Millepied, star of the New York City Ballet and renowned choreographer of Black Swan.
