Marque's king of the ring
The Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 is Hong Kong's car of the moment. Launched at the Geneva Motor Show in February and named after a prize toreador-chasing bull from Zaragoza, the two-seater supercar succeeds the Murcielago as the Italian marque's best model.
The 700-horsepowered, four-wheel drive speedster was unveiled in Happy Valley this month and has since become a Wan Chai tourist attraction at Lamborghini Hong Kong's Gloucester Road showroom.
At HK$ 6,312,000, the Aventador gives aficionados good reason to gawp. It's 4.78 metres long, 2.26 metres wide and sufficiently big and angular on 19- and 20-inch wheels to counter the buffeting of the wind at 320km/h. Its doors raise with a flourish, as in the Countach, Diablo and Murcielago. It's 6.5-litre V12 engine can thrust the supercar to 100km/h in 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 350km/h, Lamborghini says, but it is still a big boast in image-conscious, but well-policed Hong Kong. Only 4,000 Aventadors have been made, and 17 are expected in Hong Kong.
The Aventador is a showcase of supercar technology. The marque even offers an optional transparent engine cover to allow owners to show off and say it can whack 690NM of torque at 5,500Nm. Its carbon-fibre monocoque is designed to be strong and stable at speed and sufficiently light to improve fuel economy.
Indeed, the 1,575kg Aventador is 8 per cent faster and 'fuel consumption, at 27.3 litres of petrol per 100km in town, and CO2 emissions are down 'by around 20 per cent', Lamborghini says.
The model's ISR transmission shifts in 50 milliseconds while electronically managed air intakes 'open depending on the outdoor temperature and the need for cooling air, ensuring maximum aerodynamic efficiency', the Italian marque says.
The four-wheel drive has more electronic controls for drive stability and efficiency, with three Drive Select Mode System settings for Strada (road), Sport and Corsa (track).
The marque says it has 'virtually inexhaustible' personalisation options, with 13 production paint colours, a choice of two-tone interiors and Lamborghini's individualisation programme.
