Super Pepper finally cracked it for his maiden win in the Class Five Wo Che Handicap, but the margin of error was only a dropped whip. 'I couldn't believe that this horse could have had 22 starts and not won a race,' said Ricky Yiu Poon-fai, who took the gelding over late last season and was saddling him up for the fifth time. 'I said to the owner, it's time he did something.' Camped in behind the leader by Keith Yeung Ming-lun, Super Pepper found just enough to hold out Sugar On Top (Darren Beadman) and Newswire Too (Mark du Plessis) in a desperate three-way photom. 'It was quite lucky - Beadman dropped his whip on the second horse and had to use his hand for the last 100m.,' Yiu said.
