Name Bvlgari Wong Bo-wah
School St Clare's Girls' School
Grade Form Six
Sport Swimming, finswimming, badminton

Bvlgari, 17, is in the Hong Kong finswimming junior squad. She has won many medals in local events, including two golds and a silver at the Spring Finswimming Open Competition in May.

She was the captain of her school's swimming team last year. Her team captured the Grade A title in the Inter-school Swimming Championships (Hong Kong Island, Division Three).

Bvlgari also represents her school in the Inter-school Badminton Competition (Hong Kong Island, Division Two). Her school came fourth in Grade A girls' category last year.

'Finswimming is the most recent sport I started among my three disciplines,' Bvlgari says.

'Two years ago, my PE teacher encouraged me to join the finswimming fun day organised by the Hong Kong Underwater Association.

I loved this new sport, and I signed up for a course. I enrolled in a competition one month after I joined the sport. I wasn't even familiar with the regulations at the time. But I managed to win the gold medal in the relay race with my teammates and took a bronze in the individual event. This was an amazing experience for me.

'I like finswimming because I can experience a faster speed in water ... I feel like I am going home when I go to the pool for finswimming training.

'The Inter-school Badminton Competition is going on now, and I think this year our team has a great chance to be champions in the A- and C-grade competitions. We are now in the Division Two competition and should get enough points to ensure the school is promoted to Division One.

However, I am still suffering from an old injury to my right ankle. It's still painful, but I won't give up easily.'

From her coach

'Bvlgari is an outstanding athlete... I have set high goals for this optimistic girl, says Rock Lau Chi-wai, finswimming coach at the Hong Kong Underwater Association. 'She has two finswimming training sessions a week. She laughs a lot, but she is serious during training. She follows the coach's advice and is very motivated.'

'I will swim in the International Long Distance Finswimming Competition in Repulse Bay on Sunday,' Bvlgari says.

'I will swim 1,500m in the sea, and my target is to win the gold medal in the under-18 women's category.'
