She also competed at the first Asian Youth Games and 11th National Games in 2009. That year, she also won a bronze medal in the 100m breaststroke at the Asian Indoor Games.

Last year, she took part in the women's 4x100m medley relay at the Asian Games in Guangzhou, with her team winning a bronze medal.

'I broke the Hong Kong record for the 200m breaststroke in the AAG before Form One,' Fiona says.

'I was only 12 ... so people have seen me in competition for years and some are wondering why I still haven't graduated from secondary school.

'I can say the Asian Games bronze medal is my biggest achievement up to now. There is a healthy competition between me and my school's graduate, Yvette Kong Man-yi.

'Yvette did very well in 2009, but before the [Asian] Games, I was the better swimmer. Only one of us could join the relay race, so I was happy when I was selected.

'It was clear China and Japan would place first and second. South Korea and Singapore were our real threats for third position. I was overjoyed when we achieved our goal in the race.'

'My younger brother, Desmond Ma Po-heng, is my biggest fan at the pool. He even travelled with my parents to watch my races. He has a very loud and clear voice, and everyone at the pool can hear when he is cheering.' From her coach

'Fiona is a high achiever. She has shown good sportsmanship and social skills on the team. I know she is trying to qualify for the London Olympics, and I am confident that she will make it,' said Paulina Hui, the teacher in charge of the school's swimming team.

Ambitions

'I haven't been on good form since the Asian Games... If I can attain my personal best, I should qualify for the B Standard of the London Olympic Games. I did quite well in the Hong Kong Age Group Long Course Swimming Championships last Saturday and Sunday, but I still need some time to get back into my best form,' said Fiona.
