Festivities start early

In the Philippines, the only Catholic country in this part of the world, Christmas is a major festival and December is the month for celebrations. Festivities begin as early as this month and continue with revelry that is unrivalled elsewhere in the region.

Resorts World Manila will hold Grand Fiesta Manila for a second year from December 1.

The inaugural fiesta was well received by domestic and international travellers. Apart from attracting more visitors to the resort, the carnival is also expected to promote the Philippines as a tourist destination by presenting a diversity of what the country has to offer.

Grand Fiesta Manila will comprise exhibitions, events and competitions showcasing Philippines' art, cuisine, music, festivals and world-class entertainment. These include vocal performances by champion performers such as Charice, a chorale contest among schools, and performances by various school teams.

There will be an eye-catching Jeepney art competition, in which artists can try out their skills on the country's most popular and colourful mode of transport, and a vintage car show.

An exhibition of Filipino fashion accessories, a body painting fashion show, an awe-inspiring lighting display and a mouth-watering cake design contest will be also held.

Highlight of the celebrations is a grand parade which gathers the most amazing festivals from around the Philippines into one big event.
