This season sees more designers jumping on the anti-fur bandwagon (take a bow, Stella McCartney), which has resulted in more experimental winter fabrics being used on the catwalk. Top of the list this season is shearling, or lambskin, which has a similar soft and fuzzy texture to fur. It appeared on cool cover-ups ranging from oversized fringed coats at Etro, to gilets at Mulberry. While the look is dramatic, it's not suited to everyone. If you want to avoid looking like a yeti (or adding 7kg to your frame) opt for subtle shearling accents, such as collars, which were spotted at Marni and Ralph Lauren.

Dip into the trend by toting around a shearling handbag. The Trapeze bag (HK$16,500) by Celine is made from burgundy calfskin, with the front panel covered in matching shearling. Meanwhile, Miu Miu's style (HK$11,550) is made entirely from shearling and definitely makes a statement.

Add some colour to your look with suede gloves trimmed with shearling. You'll find this pair (HK$2,600) by Cabretta Couture, at Nude is Rude. They are made to order and come in various lengths.

While Ugg boots keep you warm, they are not exactly stylish. Instead, opt for these chic ankle boots in black calfskin with a white shearing lining, like these ones (HK$9,100) by Giuseppe Zanotti Design. Wear them unzipped to show off the lining.
