A party out of this world with belly dancers, jugglers, nine-course meal ... and a soul singer
As Sanjeev Mahtani, chairman of Must Garments, celebrated his 50th birthday, he threw a party that was out of this world - well, certainly out of Hong Kong. More than 200 guests were whisked off to the Lotus Ballroom at Macau's Four Seasons hotel for a heady night of belly dancers, circus acts, jugglers and a nine-course meal punctuated with copious amounts of Cristal champagne. Just when you thought la dolce vita couldn't get any more decadent on Friday, just after midnight, multiple Grammy-nominee and American Music Award winner Akon took the stage for a medley of hits.
'I've been to a lot of parties, birthdays, award shows in my life,' said the Senegal-born R&B star. 'But this is something else.'
Among a sea of CEOs and captains of industry in the audience we spotted Faye Ho (Stanley Ho Hung-sun's granddaughter), champion jockey Douglas Whyte, Cubic club owner Paco Chan, celebrity chef Harlan Goldstein and his wife Helen, Michael Kors' Asia-Pacific managing director Alyscia Mak with architect husband Jon Pan, and noted French photographer Jean Gorguet.
Said a guest: 'It's always the quiet ones that throw the best bashes.' Indeed.
