Boston

British singer Adele, whose album 21 is the top seller in the US and Britain this year, is recovering after undergoing microsurgery in Boston to treat a benign polyp on her vocal cords. The problems forced Adele to cancel a string of appearances at concerts and awards ceremonies.

Sao Paulo

Sonic Youth may have played their final show last Monday after the indie rockers wrapped up their tour in Brazil, a month after the band's co-founders, partners Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon, announced their separation after 27 years of marriage. Moore will soon be in Europe for a solo tour.

Venice

Forty works, from paintings to photographs, by artist, sculptor and film director Julian Schnabel are on display at the Museo Correr. This collection showcases Schnabel's work from the 1970s onwards, and how his style has evolved over the decades.

Chicago

Billy Corgan, frontman of The Smashing Pumpkins, has started his own professional wrestling league. The first 'fight' is scheduled to take place this Friday at Corgan's hometown in Chicago. Corgan serves as the 'creative director' and will be coming up with all the storylines (for those unaware: professional wrestling is staged).

Singapore

Kevin Spacey is in the Lion City this weekend, playing Richard III in a stage production of one of Shakespeare's greatest works. The show, directed by Sam Mendes, was in Hong Kong recently and Spacey got rave reviews for his harrowing performance, so fans in Singapore are in for a treat. The show runs at the Esplanade Theatre until Saturday.

Sydney

The Japanese Film Festival opened on Thursday, and runs through to November 27. Highlights of the festival include a mini retrospective of the work of 'king of comedy' Koki Mitani, screenings of the animated movies The Borrower Arrietty (pictured) and Buddha: The Great Departure, and several films related to this year's devastating earthquake.
