Grub: Angelo's is a lean version of Fat Angelo's, and under the same management. It specialises in pizza, whole or by the slice. If you live on the western end of Hong Kong Island, you can call for delivery.

Vibe: This is a large and spacious restaurant that includes large bar-type tables with high stools. It also offers al fresco dining and small alcoves for customers who like a little privacy. The place is peppered with televisions, and classic rock and pop music from the 1960s and 70s mask the noise of the buses rolling by outside.

Who to take: Your dad. The combination of classic rock and pizza will reinforce his belief that his children are really awesome.

What's hot: Place your order at the counter, grab a number and wait for your food to be delivered. Pizza is the centrepiece of the menu and comes on the traditional sourdough base or with a wholewheat crust.

There are 11 set combinations of toppings. Cheese lovers can go for the Fromage Maximus, which has no less than five kinds of cheese. The Butcher's Shop includes ham, bacon, salami and Italian sausage, while the Ginza features crispy pork and stone-roasted bell peppers. If you like it hot, the Spicy Mexican is the way to go: cheese and jalapeno peppers are a marriage made in heaven and there are three kinds of cheese here, all topped off with black olives.

Creative types can build their own pizza, and with 25 toppings to choose from, there is plenty of scope for a culinary masterpiece. The pizzas are delivered to your table piping hot and on a little plinth.

Apart from pizza, a good selection of pasta and side dishes is available. There are the classic meatballs and baked lasagna. Spaghetti with Italian sausage and peppers is well worth checking out. Portions are American-sized and perfect for sharing. Other side dishes include hot dogs, salads, fried mozzarella and jalapeno cheddar cheese poppers, which are peppers stuffed with cheese.

Angelo's makes its own ice cream, offering about 10 flavours. Chase that Tiger is actually orange with chocolate ripple and is really quite yummy. If you are sharing, you might add a scoop of ice cream to a chocolate brownie. This isn't advertised on the menu but the staff are more than happy to oblige.

What's not: Condiments such as chilli and parmesan cheese are not on the tables; get them yourself.

Cost: Pizzas start at HK$128 for a 12-incher and HK$228 for 16 inches. Extra toppings are at HK$15 or HK$20, depending on the size. Pasta costs about HK$70. Two people sharing will eat well for HK$120 to HK$150 each.
